In May each year museums around the world celebrate their holiday, International Museum Day. In South Moravia’s capital this occasion is regularly marked by organizing Brno Museum Night. This year’s edition, the twelfth (!) in a row, will kick off on Saturday 21st May 2016 at the traditional time of six o’clock in the evening and will last until midnight. Although for many visitors the celebration will most probably not end with the exceptional opening hours of museums and galleries. As every year, this year’s “night at the museum” will take place at many locations in Brno and its surroundings and will feature a varied cultural programme. It will involve 25 museums, galleries and other cultural institutions in 42 buildings. Their invitations are extended by places with many years of tradition, such as the Moravian Museum (established in 1817) or the Technical Museum in Brno (celebrating its 55th anniversary this year). There will be also newcomers added to the list, such as the Fait Gallery in the new spaces at Vaňkovka, so that everyone will be able to discover something new for themselves. Museums, galleries, and other cultural centres invite visitors to their permanent and temporary exhibitions, an activity for which we may lack enough time during the rush of the everyday life. Exhibitions will be accompanied by a host of programmes, including guided tours, quizzes, music, theatre, film and stylish refreshments.
